The new year is as good a time as any to get a new pair of chucks. This soon-to-be-retired pair are about five years old, which means I’ve had them longer than I’ve had Gabriel. I’ve kept a pair of converse in my closet for almost twenty years, but this was the first year I had to put orthotic footbeds in them, thanks to a nasty bout of plantar fasciitis. Man, am I old.
Inspired by Kristin and the Mayfly Project, I’ve been thinking about how to sum up the past year in 24 words. This covers most of it: Cared for Dad, watched him die. Changed jobs. Did yoga. Quit antidepressants. Fretted over family. Painted rooms. Laughed with Michael. Goofed off with kids.
Later I thought of an even shorter synopsis for 2006: embraced uncertainty. My only resolution is to keep doing that, even though each year seems more uncertain than the last.

Megan–oh yeah! the compound. I will bring tea and chocolate. We are going to need A LOT of dog food. Or lots of slow-moving nearby woodland creatures. ahem.
Andy–Are you still doing ashtanga? I went to a few of those classes, and they kicked my ass. I am doing hatha teacher training this year. As for the struggles, a long marriage sure seems like several short marriages glued together by intermittent rough patches. You did two things last year that I want to do this year: write a lot and lose some weight.
No, I’ve always done Iyengar Hatha. I’m doing teacher training as well. It’s a long process. For the Iyengar schools, certification requires not only the training but passing several regional exams over a period of years. So, it’ll be a while before I’m certified.
