i know this shot is terrible, but i had to post it for the purposes of documentation. just yesterday the four babies were still tucked tightly into their nest. i figured that was the last shot i’d get before they fledged. this morning i decided to take a peek, and found all four babies had left the nest, and were lined up at the geranium basket’s edge. fearing i’d scare them into fledging before they were ready, i put the basket back. i was already running late for my appointment at the podiatrist’s, but i figured what the hell, and made myself later by standing on the stool, pointing my p&s into the air and shooting blind.
it was worth it, to get an albeit blurry document of this. when i came back from the doctor’s, i looked again — jimmy-ray had taken the leap. and as i type, i can hear the parents singing their goofy hearts out, their lopsided melodies egging the remaining babies on. thank god harvey’s in the house.
and there was really no rush in getting to the doctor’s anyway, since it resulted in the knowledge that i have a bone spur and plantar fasciitis. can you spell b-i-r-k-e-n-s-t-o-c-k-s? luckily, my exceedingly handsome doctor did not try and sell me a 0 orthotic, but gave me some exercises to do instead.
oh and since i’m giving random updates, florian has landed safely in chicago, harvey hasn’t killed anything since last sunday, and i’m on day 3 of a migraine.

I had plantar fasciitis which is bad news if you are a tour guide. I got some heel inserts made out of a hard plastic material from Sports Authority and it went away - might be worth a try.
Great story, except for your migraine and plantar fasciitis and the bone spur.

Phew!!! Nice storytelling, JK. I’d like to second Esther on the doctor pic. I have a rather nice Irish dentist, but I know how weird it would make me seem, if I asked him to let me take his picture. You’ll just need to imagine him. Tall. Slim. Dark hair. Designer stubble. Floppy fringe. A bit shy. Accent that is soft, from the Sout of Oirland, not the North, which is not easy on the ears. It’s enough to make a woman develop dental cavities deliberately, I tell you….

thanks everyone! i checked the nest this morning. either jimmy-ray came back, or he never fledged in the first place and i just didn’t see him — but all 4 babies are still in the basket, near the edge, twittering all nervous-like. i’ll keep you posted.

Oh man, a migraine AND plantar fasciitis? I had that once when I was training for a marathon and standing 10 hours for work as a line cook. Shockingly, it disappeared as soon as I stopped both!
